Jack Cust led the Oakland Athletics on Wednesday night as he had three rbi and the A’s defeated the New York Yankees 8-4.  It was actually a blow out until  the ninth inning when the Yankees were able score three runs off the A’s bullpen.  Great win for the A’s as the improved to 35-30 on the season.

Cust went 2-2 with three walks and the three rbi.  He had a two run single in the third inning and then a rbi single in the fourth inning.  The A’s got two rbi from Carlos Gonzalez who had a two run double in the third inning.  Not to be left out, Mark Ellis, Bobby Crosby, and Kurt Suzuki all had one rbi in the game as well.

Justin Duchscherer pitched the first seven inning for the A’s and gave up five hits and one run.  Duschscherer picked up the win and is now 6-4 with a 2.20 era.  Great job Justin!

Andrew Brown pitched a scoreless eighth inning before the Yankees scored two runs which were charged to Kiko Calero in the ninth inning.  Alan Embree came in for Calero and gave up both runs as he didn’t pick up his teammate.  The ninth inning was the only downside in the game as Calero and Embree struggled.

The A’s and Yankees will play another late night game on Thursday as they finish up the series.  It will be the rubber game of the series.  Will the A’s come out on top?  Leave us a comment and let us know!

Mark Ellis finally came out of his long slump with two hits including a walk off home run in the tenth inning to beat the Baltimore Orioles 6-5.  Ellis who is now batting .232 on the season hit his third home run of the season off of Lance Cormier.  The ball bounced off the foul pole down the left field line but of course every knows if the ball hits the pole it is a home run!

Kurt Suzuki had a big two run home run in the to have two RBI.  Emil Brown, Jack Hannahan, Frank Thomas, and Ellis all had one RBI in the game for the Athletics.

Dallas Braden picked up the win as he pitched the 2 1/3 innings of relief.  It was only the second career victory for Braden.  Braden’s first victory also came against the Orioles.

Starting pitcher Joe Blanton didn’t have his best stuff but did keep the A’s in the game and that is what you ask for by your starting pitcher.  Blanton only pitched 5 2/3 innings as he gave up eight hits and two runs.  Andrew Brown had the worst performance by a Athletics pitchers as he only pitched 2/3 of an inning and he allowed four hits and three runs.

With the sweep of the Orioles, the Athletics record is now 22-14 on the season.  Athletics Blog

Jack Cust had a error in the second inning that accounted for five unearned runs but he made up for it throughout the game as the he went 4-4 and two walks while hitting a solo home run in the fifth inning to give the A’s the lead for good.  The A’s went onto beat the Angels 15-8 in the game.

The A’s pounded out twenty hits as the put up fifteen runs on the scoreboard.  Kurt Suzuki, Daric Barton, Frank Thomas, and Bobby Crosby all had two RBI each.  Emil Brown, Jack Hannahan, and Cust all had one RBI in the game as well.  That is production up and down the lineup for the A’s!

Justin Duchscherer didn’t have his best stuff but managed to pitch five innings to pick up the win.  Duchscherer gave up six hits and six runs in his five innings of action.  Andrew Brown and Santiago Casilla pitched scoreless sixth and seventh innings before Dallas Braden gave up four hits and two runs in the final two innings.

The Oakland Athletics were shut out by the Los Angeles Angels by the score of 2-0 on Tueday night.  In a pitchers duel where both teams only combined for seven hits, it was the Angels who were lucky enough to score two runs off three of those hits.

Greg Smith tossed all eight innings for the A’s and should have had a better decision then a loss as he held the Angels offense to only three hits.  Smith threw a wild pitch and then infield fielders choice scored the second run for the Angels.

The only hitters in the lineup to record hits against the Angels were Kurt Suzuki, Mark Ellis, Ryan Sweeney, and Donnie Murphy who all had one hit each.  It just wasn’t the A’s night at the plate as they were shut down by Joe Saunders all night long.

Frank Thomas was back with the Oakland Athletics on Thursday as they pounded the Minnesota Twins 11-2.  As the A’s put up 11 runs and 15 hits, Thomas went 0-3 with two walks.  The A’s chased Twins starter Francisco Liriano out of the game before the end of the first inning as they put up six quick runs on the Twins starter.

Donnie Murphy led the A’s by going 3-5 and picking up four RBI.  Murphy had solo home runs in the fifth and sixth innings.  Kurt Suzuki, Emil Brown, and Mike Sweeney all had two RBI each in the game.  Chris Denorfia chipped in with one RBI.

Greg Smith picked up his second in of the season as he tossed seven innings for the A’s.  Smith gave up seven hits but only two runs in the game.  A very good quality start for Smith as he pitched great.  Andrew Brown and Joey Devine pitched the last two innings and gave up one hit each.

The Oakland Athletics were ahead 4-3 heading into the seventh inning and then the Minnesota Twins scored a run in the seventh inning to tie the game, and then the go ahead run in the eigth inning as they beat the Athletics 5-4.

Joe Blanton pitched 7.2 innings and took the loss for the Athletics.  Blanton allowed seven hits, four runs (three of them earned), and recorded seven strikeout.  Blanton didn’t pitch bad, he just made a mistake to Craig Monroe who took him deep to tie the game and then Jason Kubel hit a RBI single in the eigth inning.

Emil Brown had a two run home run to lead the A’s at the plate.  Kurt Suzuki also had two RBI in the game.  Suzki singled in the fifth inning to score two runs.

The Oakland Athletics improved their current road trip record to 6-1 with a 2-1 victory over the Chicago White Sox on Monday night.  Greg Smith outdueled Mark Buehrle as the two teams played in some chilly weather in Chicago.

Smith pitched seven inning of six hit baseball and only allowed one earned run.  He also picked off two base runners in the game.  He says he like to shut down the opposing teams running game and has really worked hard on his pickoff move.

Santiago Casilla, Alan Embree, and Huston Street pitched the final two scoreless inning.  Street picked up his fourth save of the season.

Kurt Suzuki led the A’s at the plate as he went 4-4 with one RBI.  Emil Brown also contributed with one RBI.

I always hope for more then two runs being scored, but on Monday night those two runs were enough to defeat the White Sox.  The A’s record now stands at 9-5.

The Oakland Athletics let a two run lead slip away in the bottom of the 8th inning, and then regained that lead on a Ryan Sweeney triple that scored Kurt Suzuki in the 9th inning as they went onto beat the Toronto Blue Jays 9-8.

Sweeney collected two RBI, while, Travis Buck, Mark Ellis, Daric Barton, Mike Sweeney, Jack Cust, and Suzuki all collected one RBI.  Talk about spreading the offense up and down the lineup!

Alan Embree picked up the win for the Athletics and Huston Street picked up his first save of the season.

The Oakland Athletics were able to beat the Cleveland Indians to open up there three game series on Friday night.  The Athletics got ahead early, and then went on to win 6-3.

Justin Duchscherer picked up the win but had to leave the game after pitching five innings.  He felt some dis-comfirt in his bicep.  He was pitching very well until he had to leave the game, hopefully it isn’t anything serious and he will be able to make his next start.

Bobby Crosby, Jack Hannahan, Kurt Suzuki, and Ryan Sweeney all had one RBI each to help the offense.

The Oakland Athletics and Boston Red Sox are finished with their two game series over in Japan and this time it was the Athletics that came out on top with a 5-1 victory.  It was the third time that two american teams split a two game series over in Japan.

The A’s got off to a good start when Chris Denorfia singled in Bobby Crosby in the second inning.  Emil Brown came up big with a three run homerun off of Jon Lester in the third inning.  That gave the Athletics a 4-0 lead after three innings but they weren’t done scoring as Jeff Fiorentino singled in Kurt Suzuki in the 8th inning.

Rich Harden was the winning pitcher for the Athletics.  He pitched a great ballgame and went six innings while only allowing one run.  That run came in the sixth inning when Manny Ramirez went deep for his first homerun of the season.  Other then that, the A’s pitching staff did a wonderful job against the potent Red Sox lineup.

The A’s will now head back to the United States and play three exhibition games against the San Francisco Giants.
