Pitching was good enough to win for the A’s, starter Vin Mazzaro allowed three runs in five innings of work. Mazzaro (2-3) gave up five hits walked four and struck out eight but was stuck with the loss. The bullpen held their own and threw the remaining four innings in shut-out fashion.
1-11 with runners in scoring position is tough to watch but it’s reality with the “new” Athletics. The A’s sit in the standings in last place and second to last in the Major Leagues at 31-43.
They have officially hit rock bottom so whats next?
]]>Holliday, playing half his games at Coors Field, has 128 homers and 483 RBIs in five big league seasons. His best year was 2007, when he won the NL batting title with a .340 average and had 36 homers and a league-best 137 RBIs in helping the Rockies reach the World Series.
It sounds like a lot to get Holliday especially when he will be a free agent after the 2009 season. His agent is Scott Boras as well so I don’t think the A’s will have the money to sign him to a long term deal.
What do you think about the deal A’s fans?
]]>Jack Cust, Aaron Cunningham, Kurt Suzuki, and Carlos Gonzalez all had one rbi each for the A’s at the plate. It’s too bad that it took the A’s until the ninth inning to get the offense kicking and score some runs.
The starting pitcher for the A’s was Josh Outman who took the loss. Outman gave up six hits and three runs in the game in 4 1/3 innings of action. Keith Foulke was terrible as he gave up three solo home runs in a row. Kendry Morales, Mike Napoli, and Brandon Wood went back-to-back-to-back off of Foulke in the seventh inning.
The A’s will now have a weekend series against the Seattle Mariners who are really struggling at this point in the season. A’s blog
]]>A’s starting pitcher Sean Gallagher lasted only four innings as he was taken out after giving up four hits and three runs. Gallagher had problems with control as he walked four batters and struck four others out. Dan Meyer and Brad Ziegler both allowed earned runs in the game out of the bullpen. It was the first earned run allowed by Zigler as he had tossed 39 scoreless innings. Santiago Casilla who took the loss was charged with two runs in the twelfth inning. Casilla gave up a solo home run to Tony Pena and then rbi single to Dioner Navarro.
Daric Barton and Carlos Gonzalez both had two rbi while Frank Thomas chipped in with one rbi himself. Thomas was the one that tied the game in the ninth inning with a rbi single to deep right field. The A’s offense left 26 runners on base while taking eight walks and striking out ten times.
The A’s will now welcome in the Chicago White Sox for a three game series this weekend.
]]>Santiago Casilla gave up one hit while only recording one out and was taken out of the game in the 7th inning. Alan Embree recorded the final two outs of the 7th inning and then Jerry Blevins tossed a scoreless 8th inning.
The A’s had some trouble with James Shields who got the start for the Rays. Shields tossed 8 1/3 innings and limited the A’s to three runs. Emil Brown and Carlos Gonzalez both hit solo home runs off of Shields and that was all they had until the 9th inning. The A’s then scored a run in the 9th inning when Ben Zobrist singled off Troy Percival. However, Bobby Crosby grounded out with the tying run on first to end the game.
The A’s will now be off on Thursday and then start up a weekend series against the Texas Rangers. A’s Baseball Blog
]]>Starting pitcher Dana Eveland pitched 5 2/3 innings before being pulled. Eveland gave up four hit and three runs in his five plus innings of action. Keith Foulke was the losing pitcher in the game as he gave up two run home run to Juan Rivera that proved to be the winning run. Santiago Casilla also gave up one run in relief.
Mark Ellis went 2-4 with two rbi to lead the A’s at the plate. The other two runs for the A’s were unearned. Bobby Crosby and Carlos Gonzalez scored the unearned runs.
Now the Athletics will start a four game series with the Chicago White Sox over the fourth of July weekend.
]]>Oakland got on the board first on an RBI single by Carlos Gonzalez in the second inning, but that would be their only run of the game. They had a good chance of scoring in the fifth inning with runners on third and second base but the Yankees were able to get out of the jam and leave both runners stranded.
]]>Cust went 2-2 with three walks and the three rbi. He had a two run single in the third inning and then a rbi single in the fourth inning. The A’s got two rbi from Carlos Gonzalez who had a two run double in the third inning. Not to be left out, Mark Ellis, Bobby Crosby, and Kurt Suzuki all had one rbi in the game as well.
Justin Duchscherer pitched the first seven inning for the A’s and gave up five hits and one run. Duschscherer picked up the win and is now 6-4 with a 2.20 era. Great job Justin!
Andrew Brown pitched a scoreless eighth inning before the Yankees scored two runs which were charged to Kiko Calero in the ninth inning. Alan Embree came in for Calero and gave up both runs as he didn’t pick up his teammate. The ninth inning was the only downside in the game as Calero and Embree struggled.
The A’s and Yankees will play another late night game on Thursday as they finish up the series. It will be the rubber game of the series. Will the A’s come out on top? Leave us a comment and let us know!
]]>Carlos Gonzalez led the team with three rbi in the game and was followed by Bobby Crosby who had two rbi. Travis Buck went deep and had one rbi as did Jack Hannahan, Daric Barton, and Rob Bowen.
Justin Duchscherer picked up the win and is now 5-4 on the season. Duchscherer tossed 6 2/3 innings and only gave up three hits and two runs in the game. He did walk five however, and that was the reason he was pulled after six plus innings.
Alan Embree, Brad Ziegler, and Kiko Calero finished things up in the game for the A’s and only gave up one hit. It was a good job all the way around for the Athletics. They will hope to continue playing this good on Friday when they begin a huge series with the Los Angeles Angels.
