As far as I'm concerned, there is no reason to watch the A's anymore. It almost seems that Billy is trying to build losing teams. If the A's are winning, Billy is quick to sell those teams, (like last year when the A's were 53-42 and 3 games back at the all-star break). When the A's are losing like they are now, Billy almost seems pleased with it. Maybe I'm seeing this all wrong, but is there any reason to watch the A's for the rest of this season? I know some one will say something along the lines of, "You should watch the prospects develop for future competing teams", but in all honesty, when are the A's going to compete again? This year (by some miracle)?, next year, 5 years from now? 10 years from now? 50 years from now? I always hear Beane and Forst say, "We're making these trades to help our team 2-3 years from now." But 2-3 years later, they are still making those very trades and making the same claims. Maybe I'm just being a pessimist, but the message I'm getting from our management is, "We don't want to win and we're satisfied with losing.", and if this is the case, why should I waste my time watching them? Milton Bradely for Eithier looks like one we'll never forget. Eithier Would easily be the A's best player in the A's organization for years to come. DBrown, I hear you. THE GUY IS 24! Jesus give him more than 1 start to snap on him. That kind of rash reaction is common but crazy. He may not be Vin Mazzaro and pitch a gem to start his career, but look at Gio's stats...The guy has struggled as he advanced at every level so far...then settled in after a number of starts. It happened in A, AA, and AAA this year. Gio has shown to have the stuff, he just needs adjusting time. However, i agree with you on the offense. Outlook is bleak says the magic 8 ball. Well except for Weeks, Cardenas, and Carter. They have a shot to be good players, but they need to develop a lot to reach their projections. He was still thinking about the homer he'd given up two batters earlier, and the inning just got worse. Not sure if anyone heard the interview with him and Robert Baun after the game, but it was TOTALLY EMBARRASSING. Gio was laughing and joking around right when he got in the booth, it sounded like he'd just pitched a two hitter. Sure didn't sound like he'd gone 3 2/3 innings and took the loss. I hope one of the veterans on the A's got in his face about that or Billy or Forst talked to him. I couldn't take it anymore... I felt like I was listening to someone who was so high on themself, they needed their own league. Gio is not the answer. Also, about the offense. Sweeney and Kurt are the only ones I can see staying around. Kust (Yes, the K in Cust is there to represent the strikeouts he always provides us with) is terrible, he needs to hit 45-50 HR's to make up for his strikeouts. And he is a liability in right. Buck is hitting .390 in Sacramento and hasn't mad in error in his career in the Majors. He needs to be in right for now and the future. It's also be nice to see Carter from Midland make his way to Sacramento soon, and then to the A's. When your corner infielders are batting at .200 or worse with little power, something needs to change. Barton, as he proved last year, isn't the answer at first and he's proving it again now (About .070) The future of the A's doesn't look too bright offensively, while the pitching is solid. Outman, Mazzaro, Cahill, Anderson AND Braden are getting it doneand will continue to. Most people leave Braden out, but he has matured into a competitor and quality major league pitcher. I think a start to changing the A's fortunes would be Hannahan (his bat is terrible, but fielding is great), Barton and Gio catching the next bus to Sacramento... with Bob Geren catching a ride as well. The A's need someone who can get hot when there is a missed call and get on guys when they aren't performing rather than sit there with that confused look he;s mastered. With that said... GO A's!
