OakFoSho….Where is Adrian Cardenas in your 2011 lineup? I say trade Hairston and put this out there:

1B-Carter
2B-Cardenas
SS-Green
3B-Wallace
LF-Sweeney
CF-Weeks
RF-Doolittle
DH-NOT CUST. Maybe Everidge if he really is just a late bloomer and he can hit, maybe Travis buck can play RF, Doolittle to 1b, and Carter to DH. I’m not sure, but I dont want to see Cust in the lineup anymore.

Lets wait and see how Everidge does at 1st. Hope he plays all 15 days while Barton is out. I hope he gets a good long look.

Q – I don’t hear anyone talking about Kennedy at 3rd next year. Why? I assume he has a 1-yr contract but surely he’s signable for next year.

How long can the A’s be patient with Eric Patterson?

According to Mycheal Urban on his blog at the A’s website, the A’s have played 1B Daric Barton on the 15-day DL for a hamstring injury and have called up 1B Tommy Everidge from AAA. Everidge was hitting .382, with an OBP of .432, 9 HRs and 32 RBIs at AAA Sacramento. I’m excited about his call-up and I hope he does extremely well and never gets sent back down. Welcome to the big leagues, Tommy.

I like the haul we got for Holliday.We actually kinda-sorta saved face. The only thing that rubs me wrong is that if we REALLY liked them, why didnt we draft them in 08′!!!! Wallace went 13 right after we drafted Weeks at 12.Then come to find out it was a toss up between Weeks an Wallace. And I think Billy wanted Wallace. And the Baumgartner kid went 37 ,right after we picked T. Ross in the 1st round. Feels like a do-over,you know,kinda like a mulligan for the FO. Our FO has no patience with youngster,ie. N.Cruz.A.Ethier,C.Pena I know im forgetting a slew of others. I think we are going backwards!! But they say the Wallace kid is a stud!!

The key combination of Bats that the A’s need for the 2011 project to work are Carter, Wallace, and Doolittle. Can you imagine that lineup!?

1. Weeks 2B
2. Sweeney CF
3. Wallace 3B
4. Carter 1B
5. Cust DH
6. Hairston LF
7. Doolittle RF
8. Green SS
9. Zukes C

I know some have a problem with Zukes batting 9th. Its true he has above average speed for a catcher and hits for decent average and power, but he is in the mold of a Kendall in that he hates to sit on the bench, so batting him 9th limits the load on his legs and likely allows him to play more in the long run do to slightly less daily work with the bat. It seems trivial, but over the span of a season, saving a few at bats here and there can really matter over the course of a season. Also, its good to have a guy with decent speed and a good bat in the 9 hole. Like an extra leadoff guy at the end of the order.

Well, If he doesn’t stick at 3B, then I dont like this deal. At the start of the season, the A’s had two Gaping holes in their Organization, and they encompassed the left side of the infield. Chavy is done and OC will be gone by the end of the week. Crosby Still Blows, though he seems to be settling into a utility role well, but hes gone at the end of the season too.

That means, our 2009 1st rnd pick needs to be ready to play at some point, next season, though 2011 is more likely. I think Patterson has earned the right to fill in until then, tearing up AAA this season.

Thus the last problem to solve was at 3B, and Ron Washington isn’t around any more to mold Wallace defensively the way he did Chavy. However, if the A’s can get him to loose some weight to improve his range, and coach him up defensively to stay at 3B, this trade will be a winner. Forget the other prospects, Wallace is the only one that matters given the nature of the A’ desperate need for a long term solution at the position.

So where does this leave us in the 2011 rebuilding project? Well, if at the end of net season, Carter is MASHING at 1B, Wallavce at 3B, and Doolittle in RF, then we are on track. 2B Weeks and SS Green will hopefully join at the start of 2011. Sweeney can play CF and Hairston (PLEASE KEEP HIM) can play LF. With Zukes and our young Staff, the 2011 Project is alive and well.
