Bob DuPuy resigned Tuesday as Major League Baseball's chief operating officer following 81/2 years as commissioner Bud Selig's top aide. The move is effective Oct. 31, and Selig doesn't currently intend to replace him. DuPuy was Selig's outside lawyer when he became executive vice president for administration in 1998.

The 1994 season in Major League baseball had a different look. There were now six divisions, and an extra round of playoffs was to begin. For the first time, a wild card team would make the playoffs. Of course, the 1994 Playoffs never happened due to the strike. The first season of the Division Series took place in 1995 (unless you count the 1981 season which saw a changed playoff format due to the strike that year). The Divison Series helped attract fans back to the game by creating an extra round of excitement for the postseason.
